Sylvia B. Monahan, 88, of Piscataway, NJ entered into eternal life on Good Shepherd Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born and raised in Bayonne, she was the daughter of Anthony and Eva (Leszczynska) Budka.
She was a resident of Piscataway and a Communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish for 53 years.
She served as Secretary to the Assistant Executive Director of the Port of New York Authority (now PANYNJ) prior to leaving work to raise her family in the early 1960s. When her children were grown, she resumed her career, retiring in 1992 as a Technical Secretary at the Bureau of Engineering Research at Rutgers University.
Most of all, Sylvia will be remembered as a kind, generous, and caring person. She was always gracious and admired by everyone whose life she touched. She nursed 5 of her 6 siblings through illness and afflictions in their twilight years.
Her beloved husband, Peter A. Monahan, Jr., passed before her in 1992. They were active in the Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes, American Legion, and VFW.
Surviving are her daughter, Jane DeHaven of Flemington, NJ and her husband Kevin; and son Mark Monahan of Ringoes, NJ, his wife Karen, and grandchildren Peter and Kelly Monahan.
Friends may visit the family from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Dunellen. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ.
