Ronald M. Shea, 81 of Dunellen, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Michael and Honoria (Nora) Shea. Ron attended Saint Peter’s High School, New Brunswick and Saint Francis University, Loretto PA, before serving as a Captain in the US Marine Corps for 10 years and a career at Revlon Inc and the US Postal Service.
Ron was first and foremost a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. As a child of immigrants, Ron took great pride in his Irish heritage. For his service in Vietnam, he received a Navy Commendation Medal and Presidential Unit Citation, among other honors. Ron was a life member of the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Nora, his eldest sister Betty, and his brothers, John and Robert Shea. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maureen (Sheenan) Shea, and his sister Nancy Bramante and eight children: Cathleen Canevari, Michael Shea, Margaret Plunkett, Elizabeth Parente, Patricia Hummel, Thomas Shea, Joseph Shea, Mary Shulde and their spouses; and his greatest joy, 33 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family on Sunday, July 14 from 3:00-6:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 15 at 10:00am at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Dunellen. Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
