Rocco Mileto, 94 of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25 at Abington Care Center in Green Brook with his loving family by his side. Born in Tresilico, Italy, he was the son of the late Vincent and Carmela (Erigo) Mileto.
Rocco was a school teacher in Italy. Upon coming to the US in 1954, he worked as a carpenter by trade, framing houses. In 1970, he began working as a carpenter employed at the VA Hospital in Lyons when he retired in 1990. He loved his vegetable garden and tending to his fig and peach trees. He also liked building things, ranging from the 4 houses for his family to items as small as a napkin holder. He was also an avid reader, National Geographic was his favorite, and loved listening to Italian folk music, he enjoyed cigars and pipes and in his younger years, he would always be seen with one or the other hanging from his mouth. His greatest joy came from his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rocco is survived by his loving wife Josephine, his beloved children: daughter Carmela Warger and husband Robert of Piscataway, NJ, his son Vincent Mileto and wife Nancy of Clinton, NJ, and his daughter Rita DeFilippis and husband Robert of Middlesex, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Rosa Fazzolari, Ashley Warger, and Andrew and James Mileto as well as by relatives in Italy.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen, with a funeral service to follow at 8:00pm.
