Robert (Duke) Thomas Snyder,81, of Dunellen passed away peacefully at Abingdon Care and Rehabilitation Center on December 11, 2018, after of a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on October 5, 1937 and raised in Jersey City, he was the son of William and Grace (Alburtus) Snyder. After graduating from Snyder High School in Jersey City, he attended Jersey City Junior College and Rutgers University. In 1961, he was drafted into the Army and served stateside in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1968, he moved to Dunellen and worked for Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies for 36 years, until he retired in 1999.
“Duke” will be remembered by his loving wife of nearly fifty-six years, Mary Claire (nee McGurr). Devoted father of Kim and her husband Mark Goldberg of Basking Ridge, Kelley and her husband John Ferrante of Wall and Kerri Snyder of Basking Ridge. His greatest joy was being Pop-Pop to grandchildren Julia and Catherine Goldberg and Patrick and Jack Ferrante. He is also survived by his brother, William of Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of Abingdon for their care and support over the past two years. A visitation will take place on Friday, December 14th from 4-7:30 pm. at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 15th at 9:00 am at St. John’s Church, Dunellen. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
