Philip Cortese, Jr, of Piscataway, NJ, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at RWJUH in Somerset surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Philip, the son of the late Philip and Palma D'avanzo Roccisano, spent a majority of his younger years in the Borough Park/Bensonhurst neighborhoods of Brooklyn playing stickball or handball with the rest of the neighborhood guys. As the years progressed, Phil became increasingly interested in the restaurant & bar business, and eventually opened up a club called “My Place” in Brooklyn. After several years of success with the business, Phillip decided to sell and work in various establishments as a bartender leading to his retirement from the Loew’s hotel chain in the mid 1990’s.
Philip spent his retirement with his spouse of 59 years, Dolores, who passed away in 2016. They shared quality time together for a number of those years going out to dinner, shopping, visiting relatives, and spending time with their four grandchildren. Philip and Dolores were always together and after being apart for three years are now reunited in heaven.
Philip will be greatly missed by his children, Georgette and Russ (spouse) and Gregg and Teri (spouse) as well as his four grandchildren Russell, Michael, Brianna, and Christopher. Friends may visit the family on Friday, November 29 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00 at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 30 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
