Pat Wenzel, 87 of Dunellen, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at RWJUH in Somerville. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marie Sneed. Pat previously lived in South Amboy, where she was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s School. At St. Mary’s Pat was the only freshman to make the Varsity Cheerleading squad. She moved to Edison for a number of years before settling in Dunellen where she has lived for 54 years.
Pat worked tirelessly to support her family while at times working 2 jobs. She was very proud of the fact that she was able to work until she was 80 years old. She worked in the lunchroom at Dunellen High School where she was affectionately known as “Grandma” to all of the students. She was a recipient of “Employee of the Month.” She enjoyed watching her favorite TV series NYPD Blue and loved to discuss each episode. Pat kept her mind sharp by reciting the names of all of the presidents in order and was able to give information on any president. She enjoyed giving her grandchildren “streetcar money” whenever they were traveling somewhere. She was always too nervous to attend sporting events but would anxiously wait by the phone to hear the outcome. She took great pride in being a grandmother. She would tell them “You’ll miss me when I’m gone” and truer words were never spoken.
Pat is survived by her 3 children: Eileen and her husband Tom DeNapoli from Dunellen, Mike from Middlesex and Timmy and his wife Patty from Seven Lakes, North Carolina. Pat has 12 grandchildren: Matthew Wenzel, Justin DeNapoli, Bobby Wenzel, Todd DeNapoli, Kyle Wenzel, Travis DeNapoli, T.J. Wenzel, Kelsey Wenzel, Casey Wenzel, Noah Wenzel, Joshua Wenzel and Jamie Wenzel. She also has 2 great grandchildren: Cole DeNapoli and Mason Wenzel.
Visitation is on Tuesday, October 16 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave. in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00am at St. John The Evangelist Church in Dunellen. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked in Pat’s name to: St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
