Linus Beck Obituary

Linus Paul Beck, 72, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Morristown Medical Center, on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

He was born on February 4, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the second of six sons of William and Jean (Clouthier) Beck. He spent his childhood there before following in his father’s footsteps by attending Georgetown University. Linus graduated from its School of Foreign Service with the Class of 1969. He was a lifelong fan of Hoya basketball and was immensely proud that all three of his children were third-generation Beck graduates of Georgetown.

After college, Linus enjoyed several years living in Washington, DC, where he worked at the Library of Congress and met his wife, Laura. The two relocated to central New Jersey where he spent his career working in the construction business: first for his father-in-law at Ernest Renda Contracting Co., Inc.; later for Hunterdon Concrete; and lastly for Trevcon Construction Company, where he had recently retired.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laura (Renda), of Green Brook; his children, Emily (Johnny) Limarzi of Silver Spring, MD, Peter (Meredith) of Hoboken, and Daniel (Kara) of Silver Spring, MD; and two grandchildren, Bibiana and Gianna Limarzi, who brought him immense joy.

He also is survived by his siblings, William (Elizabeth) of Indianapolis, IN; Michael of Washington, DC; David (Linda) of Rockport, TX; Thomas (Barbara) of Tracy, CA; and Robert (Margaret) of Ankara, Turkey. Linus was more than a brother-in-law to his New Jersey family, including Joanne Hogg; Michele Renda (Brian Piantadosi); Ernest Renda (Dr. Louisa Schein); and Phyllis DeStefano (Dean).

Uncle Linus will be missed by all nineteen of his nieces and nephews.

Linus was a voracious reader, even after being stricken with eye problems late in life. He made sure to pass that love of books and learning on to his children and grandchildren. An avid sports fan, he showed as much passion for his children’s athletics as he did for the Mets or the Indy 500. Most of all, Linus will be remembered for how he loved to talk about anything and everything, to anyone who would listen.

A visitation for Linus will take place on Monday, January 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sheenan Funeral Home, Dunellen. A funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 21 at 10 a.m., with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
