SATURDAY MARCH 2 8:30AM-THE MASS IS POSTPONED AT THE FAMILY'S REQUEST DUE TO SNOW: THE MASS WILL BE RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY MARCH 9 AT 10:00AM AT ST. JOHN'S
Josephine S. Andrade (née Sequeiro), loving mother, passed away peacefully, in the evening, on February 14, 2019. Born at home, in Bayonne, NJ, she grew up on Prospect Street, in the Ironbound section of Newark, where she met her future husband, Joseph (Peter) Andrade. Though they first met as children, “Fina and Pete” became a couple after sharing a dance at the weekly Saturday night dances held at the Sport Club Portuguese. They were married in 1948 and continued dancing together for 61 years until Mr. Andrade's death in 2009.
Before moving to West Orange and starting a family, Mrs. Andrade held several positions both in N.Y.C. and N.J. including; importing/exporting, translation, stenography and as a Buyer for L. Bamberger & Company. After raising her two children, David and Denise, and moving to Kenilworth, in 1981, she returned to the workforce shortly thereafter, at the age of 56, working as a Purchasing Agent for a local manufacturer where she was employed until retiring in 1994.
A “fashionista”, long before the term was coined, Fina was known for her impeccable sense of style and her towering hairstyle, which turned heads everywhere she went. She was that rare embodiment of both strength and femininity. Possessing a strong sense of self - - she always carried herself with tremendous grace and diginity. She was an individualist who followed her own good judgement and, in so doing, inspired the ones she loved to do the same. She was a loving and nurturing mother, a loving and loyal wife, and a loving and devoted daughter. For those who knew her the world will forever be a colder place without her. Hoy solo me queda recordar. Mis ojos mueren de llorar. Y el alma muere de esperar.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2 at 10:00am at St. John's Catholic Church in Dunellen. All other services are private.
