Joseph T Casey, Jr

Joseph Thomas Casey Jr., 68, passed away suddenly on July 19, 2017 at his residence. Joseph was born in Plainfield, NJ on September 13, 1948 to Joseph and Louise Casey. He grew up in Plainfield and Piscataway. Even as a young man, Joe felt that the cookie-cutter lifestyle was not for him and eschewed formal education for the military, enlisting in the US Army in 1968 and serving as a cook stationed at Camp Casey in South Korea. After an honorable discharge from his service to this country, Joe returned to Piscataway, NJ and married Pamela Brady in 1973. Together they raised three beautiful children and settled into a home in South Plainfield, NJ. Joe then began a long and rewarding career as a chemical operator for National Starch Chemical Corporation for 27 years and retired early at age 55. Joe spent early retirement caring for his loving granddaughter, Gianna. Joe found joy and happiness in their day trips outside and in teaching her how to ride a bicycle and tie her shoes. Besides his “Pop-Pop duties”, Joe was an avid baseball fan (Go Braves!) and loved to fish, people-watch at the park, and engage in social interactions with passersby on a regular basis. He thoroughly enjoyed the limited time he had with his grandson, Cody, and loved making him laugh. Joe will be deeply missed by all his family members and friends, and by everyone whose life he touched. Joe is survived by his wife, Pamela; his children, Joseph, 37, and his wife Priscilla, Kevin, 36, and his fiancee Michele Cristelli, and Alison, 29; and his grandchildren, Gianna, 13, and Cody, 5 months. He is also survived by his sisters Chris, Maureen, Kathy, and Patricia, as well as by his brother Frank, and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Besides his parents, Joe was also predeceased by his brother Michael.

A viewing will be held on Monday, July 24 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25 at 10:00am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
