Francis T Zupko, Sr.

Francis T Zupko, Sr, 95, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at his home in Middlesex. Born in Dunellen, he was the last surviving child of Michael and Elizabeth (Petras) Zupko.

Fran worked for 21 years as the Tax Assessor in Middlesex.  He was the only assessor to be reelected, which meant a lifetime tenure. He was treasurer of the Library Board and worked the polls during Elections until the age of 94.  After retiring as Tax Assessor, he worked part time for another 25 years delivering prescriptions for Drug Fair and Walgreens.

He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Mt Virgin Church, and was the oldest and the longest serving member of the Knights of Columbus, with 75 years of faithful service.  Other K of C offices and honors included Fourth Degree,  Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Deputy, Chapter President,  Degree Team, and Financial Secretary for 42 years.  He was also an usher, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Fran is survived by his beloved wife Bert (Govlick), he is also survived by his loving children, daughter Jean Zupko Garrett of North Plainfield, daughter Laura Philip and her husband Richard of Phillipsburg, his son Francis T Zupko, Jr of North Plainfield. He was predeceased by his daughter Amy Capaldo. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Alison Anne Philip, Richard Patrick Philip and Jacob Capaldo, as well as by his son in law Richard Capaldo of Bangor, PA.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 27 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Monday August 28 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Piscataway.
