Edmund Schubert Obituary

Edmund Schubert, 84 of Bedford, VA, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 with his loving family by his side.  Born in Bremen, Germany, he was the son of the late Edmund and Marianne Schubert.

Ed, as he was known to all who loved him, was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  After a fun filled youth playing stickball in the streets of Queens NY, he moved to Huntington Station NY with his parents.  After graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture from Farmingdale University, he led a successful career as a Landscape Architect with the City of New York, where even today you can still enjoy the results of many of his parks and zoo projects.  In Huntington Station, he built a home where he spent many years raising his adoring family and surrounding himself with friends and loved ones.

In his retirement, Ed moved to Bedford, Virginia, to open a garden center and begin a new chapter in life.  He built a home on 70 beautiful acres overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, which he wanted nothing more than to be a home and gathering place for his ever growing family.  His home was filled with laughter, friendship, tractor rides for his grandchildren and cherished Thanksgivings dinners surrounded by family and friends.

Along with his wife, he was an avid traveler with his wife, loved growing a garden, and planting any seed he could collect.  He was an active member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church and community.  He became a master beekeeper and produced the sweetest jars full of honey from the landscape he designed just for them.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Edmund and Marianne Schubert, and is survived by his loving wife Gerda Schubert, his sons, Edmund R. Schubert, William Schubert and daughter Katherine Dodeman, daughter in laws, Terry Schubert and Anne Lane Schubert and son-in-law Marc Dodeman.  He was beloved by his Grandchildren Katrina, Alexa, Annie Kate, Morgan and Sam.  Ed was also survived by his only brother Winfried Schubert along with his beloved nieces Ester, Ursula and Sybille.
