Dorothy M. Tammaro, nee Stryker, 96 of Green Brook, passed away on November 23, 2017. Born in Trenton, NJ on April 25, 1921, Dot grew up in Maplewood, NJ where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1938. She then received a BS in Home Economics from Purdue University in 1942. She married Joe Tammaro in 1947, they moved to Green Brook in 1951 and lived their all their lives. Dot was a Registered Dietician, working at Muhlenberg Hospital, Raritan Valley Hospital and finally Green Brook Developmental Center from which she retired in 1986. She was a member of St. John’s Church in Dunellen for 66 years. After retirement, she volunteered with the Somerset County Extension Service and the Office on Aging. Dot was an avid reader and a talented seamstress; she loved to crochet and knit, and played bridge into her 90’s. Her family was the center of her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Katherine Stryker, her husband of 65 years, Joseph Tammaro, her brothers Donald and Richard, her grandson, Daniel Tammaro, and her sons-in-law, John Gomes and Douglas Sparling. She is survived by her five children; Linda (Dennis) Zultanski, Paul (Arlene) Tammaro, Catherine Sparling, Thomas (Mary) Tammaro, Janet Gomes, and her grandchildren, Steven (Ida) Zultanski, Susan Zultanski, Elizabeth (Brian) Leonard, Margaret (Patrick) Sharp, Robert (Stacey) Sparling, Michael Tammaro, and one great-grandchild, Emily Leonard
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday, December 2 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
