Charlotte Satterlee (McKinstry) Johnson

Charlotte Satterlee - Johnson, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Brick, NJ on Saturday evening November 18, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late William James and Elizabeth (Wilson) McKinstry.

After working in the Irish Linen Mills throughout World War II, Charlotte decided to leave Ireland to follow the American Dream. She was an indentured servant, leaving Northern Ireland in 1956 on a cattle boat, and worked for a doctor in Canada for a year, before coming to the United States in 1957. Upon coming to the US, she became a switch board operator for Bell Telephone, and later was a bagger and baker for Shop Rite in Dunellen. She achieved her American citizen in 1986, one of the proudest moments of her life. Charlotte lived in Dunellen from 1960 until 2001, and then moved to Brick to be closer to her grandchildren. Charlotte was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dunellen for nearly 40 years. She loved to read romance novels, take day trips in the car, and walk on the boardwalk.

Charlotte was predeceased by her first husband John H. (Jack) Satterlee, also by her second husband James J Johnson, Sr. and by her eight McKinstry siblings. She is survived by her beloved son David B. Satterlee, his wife Terri Albright Satterlee of Brick and by her cherished grandchildren, Kelly Marie, Brian David and Jack McKinstry Satterlee.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 24, from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00 at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday November 25 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge
