Charles Smith Obituary

Charles Joseph Smith, beloved father, passed away suddenly on May 3, 2018 at the age of 74 from complications of a heart attack. A Tomʼs River native, Charlie attended St. Josephʼs School and Toms River High School, where he was the Class of 1962 Student Council President. In 1966, Chuck graduated from Rutgers University, where he was a member of the ROTC Army Scarlet Rifles Precision Drill Team. He later attended graduate and law courses at Syracuse. Charlieʼs careers with GE, Lillian Vernon,and timeshare took him to many states, including Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, Florida, California, and Nevada.

Chuck is survived by his loving children, Tiffany and Justin, his step-daughter Katrina and her two children Amora and Orion, his longtime companion, Betsy Jacobs, and his cat Shadow. Chuck remained close with his former wife Holly Martin until his death. Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Harold Aloysius Sr. and Eleanore (Scribner) Smith, stepfather Ollie Smith, older brother PFC Harry A. Smith Jr., and his cat Smokey.

A lifelong lover of golfing, sailing, dancing, and cooking, Chuck will be best remembered as a singularly devoted father to his

children, and for his selfless and endless outpouring of love and belief in them.

The family invites you to visit at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen between 3-5 pm on Sunday, May 13. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 am on Monday, May 14 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, after which Charlie will join his mother, father, and brother in eternal rest at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in S. Plainfield, NJ.

A celebration of his life will occur in Orlando, Florida on May 19. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Facial Pain Research Foundation.
