Barbara (Cusano) McGuane

Barbara Cusano McGuane, 65, mother, educator, mentor, union president, volunteer, civic leader, passed peacefully March 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family after a brave, tenacious, nine year battle with cancer.  Barbara is survived by her husband of thirty one years Philip A. (Phlip) McGuane, her two beloved sons Anthony Cusano (Tony) McGuane, and Joseph Patrick (Joey) McGuane, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law M. Catherine Leahy and her husband Pat and so many loving friends.  She is predeceased by her parents, Salvatore A. Cusano and Freda Josephine (Ferrara) Cusano.  Barbara received her B.A. from Kean University and M.A. from F.D.U.  She dedicated her life to education and the betterment of life for young people.  She was a driven and compassionate special education teacher in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District for 37 years and a life long member of the NJEA.  Her service included but was not limited to her involvement as a, Cub Scout Den Mother, Recreation Soccer Coach, PTO member, J.C.C. member, volunteer with Washington Rock Pop Warner, Dunellen Football Fan Club volunteer, President of Dunellen Little League, and member of the Dunellen Board of Education.  In lieu of  flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dunellen Football Fan Club c/o Dunellen Board of Education.

There will be a visitation on Thursday; March 7th, 2019 from 3-8PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. A funeral service will take place on Friday; March 8th at 10AM at Dunellen First Presbyterian Church in Dunellen. Cremation will be private.
