Ann Zukowski Obituary

Ann J. Zukowski, 95, of Green Brook NJ passed away at her home on Monday, April 23. She was born in Newark, NJ to Susan Petyo and Adam Zukowski. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth and lived in Green Brook for more than 60 years.

Ann was a kind and generous person who lovingly looked after her family and the pets she had over the years. She enjoyed working in her yard and maintained her youthful and vibrant spirit for many years.

She wrote children’s stories in her spare time, was an avid reader and news watcher, and traveled much when she was younger. One time while vacationing in Mexico she met John Wayne. On another occasion she met President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline at a Hyannis Port, Massachusetts church. She traveled throughout the United States and Europe where she made a memorable trip to see family in Slovakia. Vienna was her favorite city.

Ann held several jobs in her career that included working for the Singer Sewing Company in Elizabeth and AT&T in Basking Ridge. She also worked for several years in New York City. During that time she enjoyed going to restaurants, shopping, and seeing Broadway plays where she saw many of the famous stars of the era including Marilyn Monroe, Katherine Hepburn, and Paul Newman. She also enjoyed watching classic Hollywood movies and listed “The Heiress,” “The Last Time I Saw Paris” and “I’ll Cry Tomorrow” as among her favorites.

Her favorite poem which she recited when asked was Longfellow’s “The Arrow and The Song.” As the poem says, she always showed “the heart of a friend” to anyone she knew. She will be deeply missed by all who knew this very special, unique, and inspirational person.

Surviving are her brother Robert Zukowski, her nephews John A. Zukowski and Gary Folio; her nieces Joy Gora and Barbara Crouse; her grand-nephew Richard Crouse; her great grand-niece Brianna Crouse and great grand-nephew James Crouse; her cousin Kristina Mercakova; and her sister-in-law Virginia Zukowski.
