Alexander W. Wadlow, 84, of North Plainfield, died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Al and Irma Wadlow.
Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his sister, June Stein, and grandson, Corey Coleman. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley Weber Wadlow; loving daughter, JoAnne Walsh of Pennsylvania; his dear sons, Steven Wadlow and his wife, Marisol of Puerto Rico, and Bradley Wadlow of North Plainfield; three cherished grandchildren, Shannon and her husband Jeff; Alyssa and Michael of Pennsylvania; and great-granddaughter Lilly of Pennsylvania; dear sister, Linda Howard of New York; dear sister-in-law Joan Meehan of Connecticut; and his many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Al was raised in Peoria, Illinois, and resided in Hickville, N.Y.; Cranford, N.J.; and Chelmsford, MA, before settling in North Plainfield in 1988.
Al proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and was discharged with honors. He was on the ship “Bennington” when it caught fire and they lost 100 men.
Al worked for Burroughs and Unisys for over 30 years, then worked at an R.V. shop for 10 years, which he loved.
Al enjoyed spending time at his camper, his golf cart and friends at Triplebrook R.V. Camping Resort in Blairstown, N.J. for 28 years. It is the one thing he missed the most during his illness.
Al enjoyed camping, golf and woodworking.
There will be a visitation at The Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, N.J. from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 20. Final viewing at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 21, followed by burial services at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, concluding with a military service.
