Joan Lauria Obituary

Joan Lauria passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  She shared 88 years of love with her family and community.  Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 18th from 3 – 7 pm.  A service will be held on Tuesday, March 19th at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Lake Nelson Cemetery, Piscataway.

Joan was born on March 26, 1935 and was the oldest of four children to bless the Price family. As a young girl she worked in a sweet shop and had fond memories of her time there, sharing her recollections with all her grandchildren. By happenstance, she met John Lauria and the rest was history. They fell in love and after his honorable discharge they married and purchased property in Piscataway.  This was the beginning of their roadside vegetable stand.  For over six decades she has worked the farm with her family. Joan was the heart and soul of “John & Joan’s Road Stand”, known far and wide, where she shared the bounty of her land with all who stopped by. Her dedication to providing delicious vegetables graced the tables of countless families, nourishing both body and spirit.

Beyond her role as the farmstand owner, she was a devoted mother to her five children. Her family was her pride and joy, and her impact extended to her 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She was over the moon to learn she would soon be a great-great Grandma!

At her farmstand, Joan was more than just a vendor; she was a friend, and a confidante. Her smile welcomed all who approached, and her genuine interest in their lives made every interaction meaningful.

To Joan, there was never a bad time to light up a cigarette, sip a cup of coffee or enjoy  an Oreo cookie. Simple pleasures were her favorite kind.

Though she may no longer sit in her swing at her roadside farmstand, Joan’s spirit will live on for ages to come.

Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Margaret (nee) Knapp Price, her husband John Lauria and her brothers Thomas and Richard Price; she leaves her children John Jr., (Lynn), Timothy Sr.(Donna), William (Janice), Susan Serido and Lisa Leone (the late Richard); her grandchildren John, Jaime, Jenny, Jake and Jared Lauria, Jessica Frenel, Holly Musgrave, Timothy Jr., Peter and Dana Lauria, Ryan, Tyler and Kyle Lauria, Jerry and Ashley Russomano, Alyssa Olexion and Nicolette Serido; Kristin Lauria, Brooke and Brianne Leone and Jenna Palma; her twenty four great grandchildren; brother Roger Price (Madeline Bost); and many more dear relatives, customers and friends.
