Betty A. Gargiuli

Betty A. Gargiuli passed away March 26, 2024 at the age of 96. Her final wishes were to be laid to rest beside her husband Robert, during a private family service at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield, NJ.

Betty was born and raised in a small town in England. One day she met a young American Serviceman. He had a stopover in England before returning to the United States for his honorable discharge. They met, fell in love and were married in the town of Bath. Betty was very brave to leave her home, family, friends, and country to move to America. At the age of 18, she arrived in South Plainfield, New Jersey, to start a new life with her husband Robert. She was warmly welcomed into his large Italian family and became a U.S. Citizen. They started a family and raised 5 children.

Betty was a very loving and caring mother, who unselfishly did everything she could for the comfort and happiness of her family. She was also an excellent cook, who lovingly prepared every meal fresh from scratch. She learned to prepare a lot of Italian dishes from Robert's family. Though, she remained faithful to her British heritage by making "porridge" on cold winter mornings, and treating us to "roast beef with yorkshire pudding".

We were truly blessed to have such a wonderful mother. We are left with a lifetime of loving memories, which we will cherish and be comforted by for all the years ahead. Rest in peace Mom, you will be forever in our hearts and thoughts.

Betty is survived by her brother David and other family members in England; 5 children: David, Richard, Susan, Christopher, Brian; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and by her sister-in-law Gladys McCaughey and Gladys' son James.
