Walter Fedirko

Walter Fedirko, 94, died Jan 2, 2017 at Avalon at Hillsborough in Hillsborough, NJ. He was a resident of Hillsborough for many years.  He was born in Elizabeth to the Late Nicholas and Anastasia. Also predeasing him was his wife Natasha in 1989, a brother Michael in 2006 and his companion Isabel  Price in 2014.   Walter earned a Bachelor of Arts in Russian from Cornell University. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Walter was self- employed in his family’s business, Nick’s Grove Tavern in Piscataway for many years. He also worked for the FBI for 12 years.

As a communicant of Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung, he also served as an usher. He belonged to the Lions Club, the Watchung Senior Club, did volunteer work for the Hillsborough Library and was a former active member of the Hillsborough Senior Center. Walter was a member of the Global Volunteers and had traveled all seven continents.

Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth Fedirko Greenberg and husband Ronald of Sea  Cliff NY, Michele Doherty and husband Kenneth of East Amwell NJ, Nina Gonzalez and husband Joseph of Albertson NY, Eva Brake of Rockville MD., and 9 grandchildren, Alexander and Daniel Greenberg, Tamara and Brendan Doherty, Elena and Thomas Gonzalez, Devon, Austin, and Jonathan Brake, and a step-grandson Kevin Gonzalez.

Visiting will be Wed. 2-4 7-9 PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen NJ. There will be an 11 AM funeral service on Thurs. at Wilson Memorial Church, 7 Valley Rd. Watchung, NJ. Cremation will be private.
