Sally Sterling, 68, a hospital dietitian who lived most of her life in Dunellen, died April 29, 2017, at the Abingdon Care & Rehabilitation Center in Green Brook after a lengthy illness.
Sally was a 1966 graduate of Dunellen High School. She received her bachelor's degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station in 1971 and then completed a year-long internship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, leading to her certification as a registered dietitian.
Sally served as food service director at Raritan Valley Hospital in Green Brook and the Welkind Rehabilitation Hospital in Chester until her retirement. She was also a member of the Dunellen Board of Health for many years.
In her spare time, Sally enjoyed playing the piano, fishing, softball, going to the racetrack, having contact with her many friends and reading true-life crime stories.
She leaves her father Robert of Dunellen; brothers Guy of Newark and Robert Jr. of Trappe, MD; an aunt, Josephine O'Mara of Ocala, FL; seven cousins, and four nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Florence, a teacher at Dunellen High School for many years, who died in 2004.
Friends can pay their last respects at the funeral home on Thursday morning, May 4, followed by the celebration of a mass at 10 am at St. John’s Church on Washington Avenue in Dunellen and burial at St. Teresa’s Cemetery in Summit.
