Robert G. “Bob" Sobotka, Sr., 84, of Middlesex, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at RWJUH in Somerville with his loving family by his side. Born in Plainfield, he was the son of the late Karl F. and Hermine (Wolf) Sobotka.
Bob graduated from Dunellen High School in 1951. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob married the love of his life, Sylvia Tolomeo in 1959. He was the long time owner/proprietor of Tri-Boro TV and Appliance Center. Bob had a love for tending to his roses and keeping his yard well manicured. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1488 and American Legion Post 306. He was an assistant Scout Master, loved the Jersey Shore, the Yankees, playing golf, and organizing and attending his high school class reunions. In later years, he became focused on his grandsons, not just attending their sporting events but serving as a mentor and role model as well. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Sylvia on August 29, 2015. He was also predeceased by all of his siblings. He is survived by his loving children; son Robert Sobotka Jr., and wife Kathy of Louisville, KY, and his daughter Susan Adelman and husband Glenn of Branchburg, NJ. He is also survived by his 4 cherished grandsons; Matthew, Andrew, and Thomas Adelman and Connor Sobotka.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 26 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 27 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Catholic Church in Middlesex. Burial will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
