Philip J McCarthy

Philip J McCarthy, 72, of North Plainfield, passed away on Sunday, February 26 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Rahway with his loving family by his side. Born in Plainfield, he was the son of the late Philip and Mary (Semple) McCarthy.

Philip received his MBA from Rutgers University and was a proud alumni. He was a Vietnam War Era veteran, having served his country honorably in the United States Army. Philip was an avid reader, especially anything by Stephen King. He was a history buff, particularly military history. He loved going to the beach at Sea Isle City, attending plays and concerts, house sales and antiquing where he was a connoisseur of rare finds. However Philip’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family and in later years his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Philip is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 45 years Jane (McCartan) McCarthy, his adoring children, daughter Mary O’Connell and husband Robert of Laurel Springs, NJ, son Philip T McCarthy and wife Nicole of Enid, OK, and his son Joseph P McCarthy and wife Jennifer of Milford, NJ.  He is also survived by his 8 cherished grandchildren; Patrick, Michael, and Alyssa Rose McCarthy, Caleigh and Olivia O’Connell, Rhys McCarthy, Connor Hall and Jayme Kwitoski, as well as by his cherished friends Joyce and Jon Fourre.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday March 1 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Thursday March 2 at 11:00am at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in North Plainfield. All other services are private.
