John Richard Kearns, born on May 2, 1936 in Dunellen NJ, passed away on Monday July 31, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
He lived in the Plainfield area his entire life and resided in Aristacare for the past two years. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick and Seton Hall University in South Orange where he played basketball. “Richard was employed as a teacher in Irvington and also coached basketball for many years. He also served honorably in the Army during peacetime. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield. He is predeceased by his parents Walter J. Kearns Sr. and Kathryn Burns Kearns, and brothers Robert and Walter Kearns Jr.
He is survived by his sister Nancy E. Burawski, many nieces and nephews including special nephew Tom Burawski and special niece Marjorie Abrams.
Visiting will be Fri. 9:30-10:30AM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. There will be an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church with burial to follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, So. Plainfield.
