Jean DiCosola, 82, formerly of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 14, 2017 at RWJUH in Somerville with her loving family by her side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Teresa (Albera) Barbieri.
Jean received her Master’s Degree in Education from Brooklyn College and was a teacher for many years with the NYC Board of Education before retiring to raise her family. Jean loved to cook, and being in the kitchen preparing meals for her family. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. If it wasn’t cards it was mahjong or going bowling. However, Jean’s greatest joy came from raising her family and keeping a happy and loving home. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean was predeceased by her devoted husband, Rocco Louis in 2015 and her beloved daughters; Michele in 2002 and Gina in May of this year. She is survived by her loving children; daughter Ellen Cackowski of Metuchen, and son John and wife Cheryl of Lisle, IL. Jean is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Andrew and Matthew Cackowski and Joshua, Rebecca, Rachel and Grace DiCosola, as well as by her sister, Anita Needhammer.
A viewing will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral mass will celebrated on Tuesday December 19, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Somerset. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
