Helene L. Ford

Helene L. Ford, a resident of Palm Harbor, Fl., died Nov. 6, 2017 at Walton Place Assisted Living in Tarpon Springs, Fl. She was 95.  She was born in Elizabeth,, NJ and had lived in Green Brook and Watchung before moving to Palm Harbor 38 years ago. Her husband V. Hugh died in 1994 and she was also predeceased by a sister, Sister Marita Mills At one time, Helene attended comptometers school in Newark, and worked for a short time for Allstate in Murray Hill,  but most of her years were spent as a homemaker.  Helene, who was a very active lady, was an avid golfer and tennis player. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Womens Council and  President of the Womens Club in Palm Harbor where she also sang in the choir. When she was in Watchung, she was a member of the Watchung Valley Players where she participated in theater productions and sewed a lot of their costumes. She served as President of the Watchung Garden Club and also was active in the Plainfield Ski Club. While living in Florida, she was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Highland Lakes.

Surviving is a sister Norma E. Bennett of Mountainside, 2 nieces Marita Fritzinger and Elaine M. Riley both of Dunellen. She is also survived by  her great nieces and nephews Kerri,  Kevin, Kylie, Christopher, 3 great great nephews and 2 great great nieces.

Visiting will be Sun. 4-7PM     at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. There will be a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial on Mon. at St. John’s Church in Dunellen. Entombment is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Newark.  A Memorial Mass will be arranged at a later date in Palm Harbor.
