George J. Lyons, 55, of South Plainfield, died May 19, 2016 at JF Kennedy Hospital in Edison. He was the son of the Late George and Angelina and brother of the Late Linda Perez. George was born in Plainfield and grew up in Dunellen, then moved to North Plainfield . For the past 16 years he had resided in South Plainfield. He was the Director of Public Works for the Boro of So. River for 12 years before his retirement in 2012. He also was a member of the Public Works Association and a communicant of Our Lady of Czestechova in South Plainfield. He was extremely close to his relatives and friends, many of which he stayed in touch with since his school days. George was an avid Giants and Yankees fan.
Surviving is his loving wife Deborah, a niece Stacey Miller and husband Stu and their son Jake, and a nephew Steve Perez.
Visiting will be Tuesday, May 24 from 4:00PM-8:00 PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. Friends and relatives will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday May 25 at 9:00AM with a graveside service taking place at 10:00AM at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
