Welcome to the memorial page for

Elizabeth (Wittke) Weiss

October 5, 1926 ~ October 16, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old

ELIZABETH M. WEISS

AGE: 90 * DUNELLEN

Elizabeth Matylda Weiss peacefully passed into eternal life on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at her home in Dunellen.  Elizabeth, was born October 5, 1926 in Mochy, Poland, the eldest sibling of a loving family: father Richard Wittke, a farmer and WWI veteran, mother Maria, sisters Ida and Gertrude, and brothers Richard and Alfred.  Elizabeth worked as a bookkeeper until she married and in later years she worked as a hostess for ARA at Bell Labs and Chubb Insurance.

The Wittke family endured the ravages of WW II and subsequent Russian invasion. On May 10, 1959, Elizabeth married her beloved George and emigrated to the United States, building their home in Dunellen, where they raised two children, Alfred and Barbara.  Elizabeth was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, long-time member of Plainfield’s Gesang und Turn Verein (Saenger Halle), where George and her spent many happy occasions with friends Uwe and Erna Jensen, Liesel and Bernie Krogoll, Richard and Carmela Haas, Margot and Mutti Schilk, Traudel and Willi Denuell, and Doris and George Haas among others.

Elizabeth, known as Oma to her three grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen and Ella, loved to garden, loved to cook and bake and loved to dance polkas and waltzes.  She was fluent in three languages: English, German and Polish – a talent she was quite proud of even in her remaining days.

In the past few years, Elizabeth was able to remain in her home and stay active with the loving support of family, friends and her trusted friend and aide, Khatuna, to whom the family is most grateful.

Elizabeth has joined her true love George in heaven and leaves her beloved family:  son Alfred, his wife Teresita; daughter Barbara, her husband Anthony; grandchildren Ella Weiss, Lauren and Kristen Santullo and the Polish and German relatives, including brother Alfred, sister Ida, Franz, Maria, Oleg, Jozef, Stephanie, Jadwiga, and Hannelore, with many happy memories. Thank You, Dankeschon and Dziekuje for being the best mother and grandmother ever!

Friends are invited to attend visitation at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen, NJ on Friday, October 21 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22 beginning at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 317 First Street, Dunellen, NJ.  Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Donations in Elizabeth's name would be greatly appreciated to either the Dunellen Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association.
