Donald E Martens

Donald E Martens, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 4, 2017 at his home in Plainfield with his loving family by his side. Born in Red Bank, he was the son of the late Helmer and Grace Martens.

After serving his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Donald returned home to marry the love of his life, Doris. He worked for many years as a butcher and meat manager for Shop Rite before retiring many years ago. Donald was a proud member of American Legion Post #306 of Middlesex, as well as a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He loved the Giants and the Yankees, but mostly he enjoyed sitting in his backyard, enjoying the serenity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Donald was predeceased by his loving wife Doris on October 17, 2016. He is survived by his sons, Mark D Martens of Plainfield, Paul D martens and wife Deborah of Bushkill, PA and Michael J Martens and wife Doreen of Sayreville, NJ, as well as by his 4 cherished grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday March 9 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A liturgy will celebrated on Friday, March 10 at 9:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunellen. Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
