Donald A Charity

Donald A Charity, 84, of Middlesex, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at RWJUH in New Brunswick. Born in Summit, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles A and Edith (Glass) Charity.

Mr. Charity served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, and later in the United States Army Reserve. Upon returning home from the Air Force, he went to work for Bell Labs in Murray Hill as a technical engineer and would stay there for 45 years. He was an avid fisherman, fishing for trout, or surf fishing, depending on the season. Donald was also an excellent cook who could juggle the stove when he had a crowd to cook for. He was also a lifelong Yankees fan. He loved animals, especially his Westies, he loved to hike, and he loved to laugh. Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His wife Arline, whom he was married to for over 60 years, but who he met in high school, his children, his grandchildren, they gave him his greatest joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, Donald is predeceased by his brother Robert. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Arline (French); his adoring children, daughter Donna Charity and her husband Phil Bedrose of Middlesex, his daughter Deborah Charity of Middlesex, and his son Craig Charity of FL. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kyle Lane and Bridget Charity; as well as by his brother Douglas Charity of FL.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, from 3:00-6:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 30 at 10:00am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s name to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org
