Bernard W Heirholzer, 90 of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 21, 2017 at Edison Estates in Edison. Born in Midland, MI, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Margaret (Hall) Heirholzer.
Bernard served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Althea Clewell, and on May 28, 1950 they were married. It was a love affair that would last for 67 years. They moved to Piscataway, where they were residents since 1952. It was there that they would spend their lives and raise their family. Bernard worked as a warehouse manager for Campbell Soup Co in South Plainfield before retiring in 1992. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA, the Assoc. of NJ Rifle and Pistol Clubs, and American Legion Post 261 of Piscataway. Bernard also had a love of animals. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Bernard is predeceased by his brother Kenneth and his sister Evelyn Rider. He is survived by his beloved wife Althea; his loving children Carol Heirholzer of Ocean, NJ, his son Donald Heirholzer and wife Janet of Port Richey, FL and his cherished grandson Mitchell of FL.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 27 from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 28 at 10:00am at the funeral home with burial with military honors to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernard’s name to St. Huberts Animal Welfare Center at www.sthuberts.org
