RIP Coach - although I wasn't involved in any of the teams, you were a wonderful teacher and role model. May God's blessings be with you.

To the Spagnola family,
I am truly sorry for your loss. He was an inspiration and a true leader to all of us who had the opportunity to play for him. I remember one of his favorite quotes was "never shortchange a Dunellen kid" and he was right. He instilled into all his players the confidence to play the game at a higher level and be successful both on and off the field. To me, he will always be known as "Coach". God bless and rest in peace "Coach".

Butch was simply next to my father the most important man in my life . He took me into his personal life and his football life and " schooled " me on every aspect of high school football from strategy to how to handle people - His passion for the game was second to none his love of his players ( which he forever talked about ) was even greater " loving the game " and putting in Herculean hours was important he'd say but not as important as caring about your players - He could be " tough " on you but always with a purpose - Years after his retirement always after some great great Dunellen victorys along with some crushing defeats I would leave the crowd at the bar and make my way up those small porch stairs where Butch or his loving wife Jackie would open the door - then go to his famous kitchen table where he would break out the Anisette discuss every aspect of the game - for me often with a huge smile but sometimes tears - I would leave the way I came in and thank him again for all that he did for me - He'd say he was proud of me - words that couldn't have meant more RIP Butch I'll never coach another game without looking up and hoping you are watching - love never dies

Butch was simply the most important man in my life next to my father - He took me in to his passion and deep love for high school football - invited me to his home where he " schooled " me and pushed me in every direction including the most important to him - loving his players unconditionally - Taskmaster with a huge heart -even after retirement his house was the first one I went to after some great great victories as well as crushing heart breaking defeats - Going up his stairs the door would open and then I got to sit in his " famous " kitchen drink Anisette and go over every aspect of the game warts and all - I would leave tell him thanks for everything and he would say years after he took in a kid that wanted to coach football - " I'm proud of you " No words meant more to me then those - RIP Butch I will never coach another game without looking up and hoping your watching
