Andrew J Chmielewski, 99, of Dunellen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Dunellen, he was the son of the late Michael and Stella Chmielewski.
Not only was Andrew a lifelong resident of Dunellen, he was a lifelong resident of the same street in Dunellen. He served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Andrew took part in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Upon returning home, Andrew worked as a printer before retiring many years ago. He was an active member of the Polish Home, an avid fisherman, both fresh and salt water. He loved to go boating and camping, loved to work in his garden or simply work around the house and feed his pigeons. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Andrew was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2004 and by his sisters, Catherine Chmielewski, and jean Plazeck. He is survived by his loving children; son David Chmielewski of Howell, NJ and by his daughter Doris Novak and husband Lenny of South Plainfield. He is also survived by his granddaughter Melissa Novak. He is also survived by his grand dog Sunny.
Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, March 27 from 2-4 and from 7-9 at the Sheenan Funeral Home 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Wednesday March 28 at 10:00am at St John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
