Albert Getz

Albert Getz, 85, formerly of Dunellen, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Born in Piscataway, NJ, he was the son of the late Wilhelm and Hilda (Reibel) Getz.

After serving his country honorably in the United States Army, Albert returned home, and on January 27, 1951 married Carol A. Kean. He worked for many years with his brothers in their carpentry business in Piscataway. Albert lived in Dunellen for most of his life, and was very active in his community. He was a member of the Dunellen Rescue Squad for over 20 years, having previously served on the Plainfield Rescue Squad. He was a Dunellen Little League coach for many years, as well as serving on the Dunellen Recreation Committee. He was a member of the Dunellen High School Boosters Club and the PAL Boosters Committee. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Albert was predeceased by his loving wife Carol on August 22, 1990. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Bernard, Robert, William and Morris, as well as by his sister Bernice Ocetnik. Albert is survived by his loving children, Gary A Getz and wife Barbara of Howell, NJ, Cathy G DeMartino and husband Jim of Mount Bethel, PA, and Andrew J Getz and wife Pamela of Oxford, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Purcell, Melissa Thomas, Justin Bowman, Amanda Getz, Deanna Getz, Jared Getz and Zachary Getz. He is also survived by 8 beloved great grandchildren, Morgan Purcell, Madison Thomas, Jayden Getz, Christian Bowman, Macie Thomas, Nicole Purcell, Andrew Bowman, and Jaxon Getz.  Albert is also survived by his siblings, Florence Frosoni, Eleanor Burger, Elsie Murray, and Harold “Butch” Getz.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 2:00 PM-4:00PM and from 7:00PM-9:00PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 9:00AM. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
